Week 7 Assignment 2

In order to ensure that struggling readers have access to texts they can easily read, teachers need to have classroom libraries with books at various levels. For example, a struggling fourth grader may be reading at a second grade level. If the books in his classroom library are all on a fourth grade level, he'll constantly be reading texts that he cannot comprehend. Teachers need to make sure that their classroom libraries include books of many levels, genres, and subjects. Teachers then need to help students select books that are at their appropriate grade level.
Teachers need to make sure that their classroom learning environment gives students many opportunities to practice reading. Read-alouds, guided reading groups, independent reading time, readers theater, shared reading activities, and reading centers can all be incorporated in the classroom to give students many opportunities for reading.
It is extremely important for teachers to model fluent reading for their students. Teachers can use the read-aloud session to model reading fluency. Students can grade their teacher's levels of expression, intonation, smoothness, and accuracy.
